Learning New Software
Since moving to Las Vegas, I have accomplished many things. I have begun an internship at one of the largest providers of AV services in Las Vegas. At AV Vegas, I began to deepen my knowledge of audio theory and explore many new software programs.
I began my exploration with JBL prediction software Performance Manager. There, I designed systems, predicted splay angles, and gained an appreciation for large-scale PA design. After becoming comfortable with this software, I designed and uploaded files to amplifier racks. These racks with my designs would then go onto real shows. Then, I turned my focus to Smaart.
This software is packed full of features; it is a sandbox for the audio minded person. I got lost in this software for weeks. Rational Acoustics offers an online course to teach this class. This course consists of 12 one hour videos exploding with information. I watched every minute of it.
After that, I decided to learn about a wireless communication system at AV Vegas, Freespeak II. This system is based on similar wired communication systems that I have used in theaters in the past, but it is wireless. This introduced another layer of complexity. After my research, I feel confident designing, deploying, and troubleshooting Freespeak II systems.
Other software I have explored includes DVS, Dante Controller, Lake Controller, Wireless Workbench, Rednet Control 2, and Venue Synthesis. These are just some of the things I have learned during my 5 weeks at AV Vegas.
At this point, it is fair to say I have a strong understanding of what these systems are doing and how they are doing it. I will continue to learn as much as I can.
